WebCD Globe Problems Reading Your WebCD CD Master

If you have successfully completed a WebCD build to CD but have problems reading the CD you wrote, there are a number of possible reasons:

Bullet If your disc is ejected or an error message is reported in reading it, or you have random problems accessing files from it, the problem may be that your CD-ROM drive is not well calibrated to read recordable discs.
Bullet If there are difficulties in reading back the disc on DOS or Windows 3.1 system, it may be that the version of MSCDEX on that system is an older one with a known bug. Versions of MSCDEX prior to 2.23 had a problem in dealing with filenames which contain illegal characters. If a directory contains a filename with an illegal character in it, you will be able to see all the files by doing a DIR from DOS, and even open the illegally-named file. But one or more files listed after that one may not be accessible or may give errors. MSCDEX 2.23 appears to have fixed this bug. A similar problem has been reported with a third-party MSCDEX-type extension as well.
